The Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama, Inc. is applying to the Alabama Department of Transportation for a federal capital funding award under Section 5310 of the Federal Transit Act. This funding is for capital assistance to help meet the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities in Lawrence and Morgan counties, Alabama. A public hearing will be held on Friday, July 18th, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm for public comments.

OUR INTENT:
The Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama intends to make an application to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for a Section 5310 Capital Assistance Grant which will provide 80 percent federal funding for equipment used in transporting disabled persons served by the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama at our Moulton clinic, the Moulton Lawrence Counseling Center and our Decatur clinic, the Decatur Morgan Counseling Center. The Mental Health Center is applying for funds to purchase one (1) replacement passenger van in order to provide door-to-door transportation services in Lawrence and Morgan counties. These vehicles are necessary to provide critical psychiatric and related mental health services for children and adults in Lawrence and Morgan counties.
WHO WE ARE:
The Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama is a public, non-profit 50l(c)(3) organization that has provided psychiatric and mental health services to the people of Lawrence, Limestone, and Morgan Counties since 1967. The organization was incorporated in February 1982 as the North Central Alabama Mental Health Board, Inc. In August 1995, the corporate name was changed to Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama Inc. The Mental Health Center was originally established under the 1967 federal Community Mental Health Center Act and Act 310 of the Alabama State Legislature of that same year. The Mental Health Center's Board of Directors consists of directors who are appointed by local governments.
Programs of the Mental Health Center include: Athens-Limestone Counseling Center; Athens-Limestone Youth Counseling; Decatur-Morgan Counseling Center; Moulton-Lawrence Counseling Center; The Albany Clinic for Children; and other programs. Services include treatment for people that have a serious mental illness, severe emotional disturbance; counseling and therapy for adults, children and families; dual-diagnosis treatment; in-home treatment services; case management; employee assistance programs; psychiatric assessment and medication prescription/ management services, housing, educational programs, transportation, and other services.
